8 April 2011

Large quantities of unlicensed medicines have been seized by Department of Health officials throughout a search of a house in Glengormley.

A male was spoken with by department officers about unlawfully importing and consequently providing unlicensed impotence medicines by means of the web.

The 47-year-old was also questioned about other medicine offences.

He will now be the topic of a report to the general public Prosecution Service.

The search was carried out by the department's Medicines Regulatory Group.

Its senior enforcement workplace, Peter Moore, stated: "It is crucial that we get the message across that unlicensed medicines can be unsafe.

"These types of items being offered, normally online, have actually undergone no quality control and there can be no assurance about their security.

"You merely do not understand what you are taking or the conditions these products were made in. More significantly, you do not know the impact drugs like this might have on your health."
